Construction hoardings might be an inevitable sight as our developments unfold but we also see the buildings that we manage on the behalf of investors as well as Chelsfield Asia fund and its partners as another opportunity to showcase our passion for design.

Around the world Chelsfield uses these buildings as a blank canvas to celebrate culture, art and fashion, showcasing local talent as well embellishing the site for our local communities during construction.

In London, uniting the worlds of fashion, luxury and art, we commissioned Internationally renowned photographer Nick Knight to create a series of billboard-sized panoramic installations during the redevelopment work at the northern end of The Knightsbridge Estate, which we manage on behalf of owner The Olayan Group.

The Knights of Knightsbridge featured 18 striking fashion images in highly structured “armour-like” creations from luxury fashion designers including Iris Van Herpen and Maison Margiela, as well as archive pieces from Dior by John Galliano. The installation stood 11 metres high and stretched 120 metres around The Estate and was seen by an estimated 30,000 visitors each day.

In Hong Kong, we commissioned a bold mural by French artist and designer Camille Walala to enliven the construction works while the Worfu development in North Point, owned by Chelsfield Asia fund and its partners, was being transformed in early 2019. With the help of six local artists, and led by international design studio Lead 8, Walala’s powerful design came to life, spanning the whole façade of the one-stop shop retail destination and reflecting the energy and liveliness of the district’s bright city lights.

At the same location, we also worked with HK Walls, a non-profit art organisation, to invite four Hong Kong-based graffiti artists to showcase their talents by creating pop art exhibitions in four newly renovated retail units. Under the theme of ‘New North Point’, they used this unusual blank canvass to express their vision of the heritage and contemporary dynamism of their local area.

In Paris, at 54 Avenue Montaigne in Paris, a property we manage for The Olayan Group, we’ve brought together the building’s prestigious tenant Dolce & Gabbana with 15 talented students from art and design school, Parsons Paris, to create a wrap to cover the building during construction. The design merged Dolce & Gabbana’s Sicilian style with the spirit of this world-renowned luxury destination.

We also worked with the Paris School of Design to create a hoarding to cover the store front at 15 rue Marbeuf, Îlot François 1er, which we manage for The Olayan Group, during construction work. Six winning paintings were selected to feature on the hoarding that celebrate King François 1 and his contribution to art and culture.

Our next installation, coming to Singapore in 2021, is one that uses art to spread awareness about wildlife conservation. Australian artist Lisa Roet will bring her giant golden snub-nosed inflatable monkey to be placed on the side of 5One Central in Bras Basah Road, a building which Chelsfield’s Asia fund jointly owns with ARA Asset Management.

Chelsfield may be a global leader in asset management and development but we’re also passionate about every aspect of design and bring together artists and communities wherever we have the opportunity.
