National Gallery - Sainsbury Wing

The development board was tasked “to implement the plan effectively and avoid repetition of previous mistakes.” Planning permission for the new wing was granted in December 1987 and the new gallery opened in July 1991.
A bomb damaged site which stood empty for decades, the initial proposal for a gallery and office building was considered as a comprised architectural solution. Stuart Lipton was involved in the strategy and implementation of the new wing.
